Company Profile:
In the past 4 years Glasgow based Strathclyde Institute of Medical Devices (SIMD) has successfully drawn in many national/international companies in the medical field & will now focus additional resource on stimulating SMEs in the Scottish economy to expand their MedTech product/process portfolio or to use their skills for the first time in the medical market/supply chain.

SIMD recently received funding from the Scottish Government (SEEKIT) & ERDF to assist Scottish MedTech SMEs & Scottish SMEs from other industries, e.g. electronics, photonics, “wellness”, textiles etc., with an interest in entering this market under a project called Strathclyde MedTech.

Support/funding is available through Strathclyde MedTech to work with the University. This can be for consultancy or research projects e.g. feasibility studies & testing. Areas of expertise include: diagnostics, cardiovascular devices, rehabilitation/assisted living, drug delivery, biomaterials, cell & tissue engineering.

1) assist existing Scottish MedTech SMEs and Scottish SMEs interested in entering this field from other fields e.g. electronics, photonics, wellness, textiles etc. Support/funding is available to work with the University. This can be for consultancy or research projects e.g. feasibility studies & testing/ facilities access etc. Our areas of expertise include: diagnostics, cardiovascular devices, rehabilitation/assisted living, drug delivery, biomaterials, cell/tissue engineering.

2) find partners to collaborate in the development/commercialisation of MedTech devices such as:
- Transdermal monitoring technology e.g. glucose, lactate etc
- Drug eluting stent technology
- Novel bioreactor technology
- Heart/lung support technology
