Company Profile:
EMBIO, a spin off from the Agricultural University of Athens, established in 2007 specializes in the development of turn-key portable, point-of-care (POC) diagnostic devices. More specifically it focuses on the development of sophisticated, portable cell biosensors for the detection of pesticides, biological warfare, animal/ human viruses & inflammation markers by means of membrane and genetic engineering.

EMBIO has an extended international network of collaborations. In Europe EMBIO’s business partners include companies from the Netherlands (Toronado and Deltares) and Portugal (SSI Agri), and product co-developers in Benelux, Spain, Portugal, Mozambique and Angola. EMBIO has research collaborations with the University of Cambridge/Cavendish Laboratory (UK), the Humboldt University (Germany), companies and universities in nine EU countries participating in the training network “CellCheck” and the company SignalGenerix (Cyprus).

In USA EMBIO has partnerships with Conductive Technologies (Pennsylvania) and BERADiagnostics (NY). Academic and research collaborations have been established with Auburn University (Alabama), the Naval Research Laboratory/Biosensors Group and the National Science Foundation.

EMBIO has also entered negotiations with the government of the Russian Federation for the establishment of a large country-wide network of sensors, for food safety monitoring. EMBIO has applied for ISO accreditation of BERA as a reference analytical/diagnostic method.
Profiltitel

Biosensors for medical and food safety analysis

What we offer:
Two landmark products are the Bioelectric Recognition Assay (BERA) cell biosensors and the Molecular Identification through Membrane Engineering (MIME) technology, which are widely appreciated as standard analysis tools for mass screening of chemical and biochemical compounds.

The BERA technology has many potential applications and can be modified to detect a wide range of new or mutated analytes. Artificial Neural Networks are used for the automated processing of biosensor signals. Most of the products and technologies are patented worldwide.

BERA has been tested and validated by a very large number of organizations and companies, including several agricultural cooperatives, Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany), Auburn University (USA), the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID, USA) and the company Orgenics (Israel).

The BERA Pesticide Sensor represents a totally new generation of analytical instruments, enabling the implementation of food safety analysis by even minor users, such as small agricultural unions or food companies.

The latest series of EMBIO sensors include products for the ultra-rapid, low cost detection of the following targets:

Virology:
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and antibodies
Hepatits C Virus (HCV) and antibodies
Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
Varicela Zoster Virus (HZV)

Oncology:
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)
Endocrinology:
Estradiol (E2)

Metabolic diseases:
Oxygen superoxide radical

What are we looking for:
Business partners who need a novel low cost, rapid and reliable detection service (medical and food sectors).

A partner (pharmaceutical/biotech company) for product distribution.

Strategic partners for research collaborations.

Collaboration sought:
  • Research & Development
  • Technical Co-operation
  • Joint Venture Agreement
  • Manufacturing Agreement
  • Licence
  • Commercial Agreement
